Cooking Instructions
1. Sauté the Onions
Spray a small frying pan with low-calorie cooking spray and set over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and fry for 2–3 minutes until they are soft and just starting to turn golden brown.
2. Create the Viking Topping
In a small mixing bowl, combine the sautéed onions, grated cheddar, relish, mustard powder, egg white, and milk. Season with salt and pepper, then stir until well mixed.
The egg white and milk create a light, soufflé-like texture when grilled!
3. Toast the Base
Preheat your grill (broiler) to a medium heat. Place your wholemeal bread on the grill rack and toast one side only until golden.
4. Melt and Serve
Remove the bread and flip it over. Spread the cheese and onion mixture evenly across the untoasted side. Place it back under the grill for 3–4 minutes. Watch for the cheese to become bubbly, melted, and deep golden-brown.
Serve immediately while hot and crispy!
